PUBLIQ, LLC is acquired by Springbrook Software, a U.S.-based software provider exclusively serving local government. Together with Springbrook, under the leadership of CEO Robert Bonavito, PUBLIQ builds on its foundation with industry expertise, complementary products, and a supporting geographic footprint.

2020

Tabb Stringer is named President of PUBLIQ Software.

Francisco Partners acquires Smith Technologies, and Kraig McEwen is named CEO. Smith Technologies is renamed RedSail Technologies™, LLC, establishing itself as an independent entity and brand.

2019

In continued efforts to reduce turnaround time and improve print and mail services, the Batch Operations department adds a high-speed folder/inserter.

PUBLIQ continues its expansion into new territories, including Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and West Virginia.

2018

The Batch Operations department purchases Ricoh printers, enhancing tax notices and utility bills with high quality, full-color inserts.

QS/1 Governmental Solutions rebrands to PUBLIQ Software, renewing the commitment to providing software for those that serve the public sector.

President of Integra^®, Kevin Welch, is named president of QS/1 and QS/1 Governmental Solutions. Smith Technologies™ is created to unify QS/1, QS/1 Governmental Solutions, and Integra with Welch as CTO. Bringing these teams together increases collaboration and leverages technology and expertise across the divisions.

2017

Saul Factor is named president of QS/1 and QS/1 Governmental Solutions.

2011

Tammy Devine is named president of QS/1 and QS/1 Governmental Solutions.

2008

QS/1 Governmental Solutions begins offering data hosting to customers. This allows data storage on servers in its own data center to increase security and data protection.

2004

QS/1 and QS/1 Governmental Solutions move into a new headquarters in downtown Spartanburg, SC.

SDP merges with QS/1 to become QS/1 Governmental Solutions.

1990s

SDP expands into new territories of the Southeast, including Georgia and North Carolina. This division of J M Smith Corporation quickly becomes recognized as a leading software provider for counties, municipalities, and utility districts.

Bill Cobb is named president of QS/1. QS/1 becomes an independent company and the third division of the J M Smith Corporation.

1980s

In 1985, Jim Smith dies at age 59. His son, James S. “Jimmy” Smith, is named president.

In 1982, SDP produces its first utility billing application and takes on its first client, M&N Utilities in West Monroe, LA – a customer to this day. SDP continued expanding software applications throughout the decade to include a complete tax suite and applications that support the financial needs of the public sector.

SDP’s development team begins working on a new project – software for personal computers

1970s

In 1979, SDP becomes a division of the J M Smith Corporation.

In 1977, the QS/1 brand is created under SDP.

In 1974, SDP becomes a division of Smith Drug Company.

1960s

In 1966, SDP begins processing and printing property tax notices for Spartanburg County – a continued customer to this day.

In 1964, Smith Data Processing (SDP) is born when Jim Smith needs to offset the cost of the new computer purchased to run inventory for his wholesale drug business, Smith Drug Company. SDP starts doing batch print work for local schools, including report cards, attendance records, and school schedules.

1950s

James M. Smith, Sr., passes away and his sons, Jim Smith and Henry Dale Smith, take over the business. Jim Smith has an interest in automation. His visionary leadership lays the groundwork for what would become QS/1.

1950s

James M. Smith, Sr., establishes Smith Drug Company in Spartanburg, SC, the first division of the J M Smith Corporation.
